SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 273
Designating October as Virginia Women's Network Month.

WHEREAS, since 1990, the Virginia Women's Network, a member of the National Women's Conference, has attempted to bring together women's groups representing diverse issues and interests; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Virginia Women's Network is evident in the burgeoning popularity and influence of women's interest groups throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, women's organizations, representing women in politics, medicine, education, finance, and a wide range of other professions and interests, now have the mechanism by which they can communicate and coordinate their activities with other women's groups; and

WHEREAS, through the good offices of the nonpartisan Virginia Women's Network, charitable, educational, social, economic, and political organizations have become even more effective in enhancing the role and influence of women in our society; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby designate the month of October, in 1997 and in each succeeding year, as Virginia Women's Network Month; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly urge the citizens of Virginia to recognize and support the many worthwhile activities of the member organizations of the Virginia Women's Network.
