WHEREAS, the 1996 girls' basketball team from Central High School, in the Shenandoah County town of Woodstock, was the regular season champion in the Shenandoah District and was victorious in the Shenandoah District tournament, the Region B tournament, and the crowning achievement, the state Group A championship; and
WHEREAS, the team was coached by Roger Wilkins (Group A Coach of the Year), a 1973 Central High graduate who earned his college degree at James Madison University, then returned to Central High School as a teacher of industrial cooperative training and basketball coach; and
WHEREAS, led by championship team members Christy Burgess, Sarah DiNardo (state Group A Player of the Year), Tara Dooley, Brandi Fleet, Sarah French, Kathy Gochenour, Stephanie Lane, Jewelee Magdic, Meghann Peer, Lindsey Rutz, and Jessica Wellard, the Central High team proudly represented the Shenandoah Valley in the state championships and brought home the title; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the members of the girls' basketball team from Central High School for their extraordinary 1996 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Roger Wilkins in honor of the Central High School girls' basketball champions.
