WHEREAS, Airylee T. Christian, a retired Norfolk State University associate professor and lifelong resident of Hampton, died on March 14, 1996; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of George P. Phenix High School, Airylee Christian earned her bachelor of science degree from Virginia State College (now University) and her master of arts degree from Hampton Institute (now University); and

WHEREAS, also the recipient of a Certificate of Advanced Study from the University of Virginia, Airylee Christian taught for eight years in the Hampton public schools before embarking on her career in the Department of Health and Physical Education at Norfolk State University; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her outstanding 22-year tenure at Norfolk State, Airylee Christian was a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and was an active member of many other organizations; and

WHEREAS, a popular and accomplished woman, Airylee Christian devoted her professional life to the education and betterment of the young people of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing Airylee T. Christian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Airylee T. Christian as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her lifetime of service, dedication, and professional accomplishment.
