970825809Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 58.1-213.1 as follows:
§ 58.1-213.1. Prohibited conduct for former employees of the Department.
A. No individual formerly an employee of the Department, for one year following the termination of his employment or service with the Department, shall represent a client or act in a representative capacity on behalf of any person, for compensation, on any matter before the Department.
B. For purposes of this section, "employee of the Department" means any individual employed by the Department (i) at a salary grade of nineteen or higher or (ii) in the tax policy unit at a salary grade of thirteen or higher.
2. That the provisions of this act shall not apply to individuals employed by the Department of Taxation prior to July 1, 1997, (i) at a salary grade of nineteen or higher or (ii) in the tax policy unit at a salary grade of thirteen or higher.
