WHEREAS, the auto body technology class at Henrico County's Virginia Randolph Community High School has embarked on a unique and ambitious project for the 1996-97 school year; and
WHEREAS, the project involves the purchase of a 1941 Chevrolet, which the class will completely rebuild as a "street rod" with an estimated value of $20,000; and
WHEREAS, at the end of the project, the street rod will be sold, with the proceeds used for the auto body technology department and the student activities program at Virginia Randolph Community High School; and
WHEREAS, already well underway, the Street Rod Project divides students into five teams--engine and drive train, frame and suspension, electrical, body and paint, and interior and glass--to completely rebuild the car; and
WHEREAS, many automobile-oriented local businesses are lending technical expertise, and many other departments at Virginia Randolph Community High School are contributing to the project; and
WHEREAS, the electricity, carpentry, business and marketing, printing, and art departments are each making specific contributions to the Street Rod Project, along with the academic departments, which are assisting with project lesson plans; and
WHEREAS, the students, under the direction of William M. Fisher, will gain invaluable practical experience, better preparing them for successful careers upon the completion of their education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby commend the Virginia Randolph Community High School auto body technology program for its creative and innovative approach to the education of its students; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William M. Fisher as an expression of the House of Delegates' best wishes for the success of the 1996-97 Street Rod Project.
