976058160WHEREAS, Leroy McAllister, Sr., has served the citizens of King William County and the Middle Peninsula for many years; and
WHEREAS, Leroy McAllister has served on the King William County Board of Supervisors since 1972, including several terms as chairman and vice chairman; and
WHEREAS, Leroy McAllister was a member of the original board of directors of the Middle Peninsula Area Agency on Aging, served as the board's first chairman, and was a leader in the agency's early organizational efforts; and
WHEREAS, due in large part to the strong leadership of Leroy McAllister, the Middle Peninsular Area Agency on Aging has provided increasingly effective services to the citizens of the area since the late 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Leroy McAllister also served for many years on the Governor's Advisory Board on Aging, where he was an active member of the legislative committee and provided inspiration to his colleagues on the board; and
WHEREAS, a committed advocate for older, minority Virginians, Leroy McAllister has been successful in bringing to the attention of legislators and policy makers the special needs and concerns of these citizens; and
WHEREAS, serving on the board of the Virginia Association of Counties, Leroy McAllister has been an effective advocate for Virginia's rural communities in their struggle to ensure an adequate supply of clean drinking water, a problem of particular importance to communities adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay; and
WHEREAS, Leroy McAllister's long career of service has been characterized by his concern for those citizens whose views, concerns, and needs are not usually communicated to those in power, and for such citizens he has been an especially persistent and devoted advocate; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Leroy McAllister, Sr., for his dedicated public service on behalf of the citizens of King William County, the Middle Peninsula, and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leroy McAllister, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his exceptional contributions to the people of Virginia.
