1997 SESSION
WHEREAS, Leonard L. Graves, a retired Williamsburg businessman and long-time supporter of the College of William and Mary, died on October 8, 1996; and
WHEREAS, a veteran of World War II, Leonard Graves served as a staff sergeant with the 48th Combat Engineers and received a citation for combat duty in Italy; and
WHEREAS, a 1935 graduate of William and Mary, Leonard Graves was for many years the owner of a clothing store in Williamsburg; and
WHEREAS, an avid supporter of William and Mary's athletic teams, Leonard Graves was an active member of the William and Mary Educational Foundation and the Quarterback Club; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Graves was a valued member of the Williamsburg community, serving on the Williamsburg City Council and on the Electoral Board; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Graves volunteered his time and energy on behalf of the United Way and the Red Cross and served as a director of the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Graves was married for 51 years to Anne Fraser Thompson Graves, who graduated from William and Mary in 1938, and all seven of their children graduated from the College between 1968 and 1985; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of an exceptional citizen of Williamsburg and a devoted alumnus of the College of William and Mary, Leonard L. Graves; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Leonard L. Graves as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his many contributions to Williamsburg and the College of William and Mary.
