HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 722
On the death of Marie S. Spencer.

WHEREAS, Marie S. Spencer of Yorktown, a long-time resident of the Peninsula and a singularly valuable and popular member of her community, died on January 17, 1997; and

WHEREAS, a native of Massachusetts, Marie Spencer was for 50 years a resident of the Peninsula, where she established an enviable record of community service; and

WHEREAS, Marie Spencer was the first Den Mother for the Cub Scouts in York County and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years; and

WHEREAS, Marie Spencer was a founding member of the Edgehill Association and the Yorktown Woman's Club and was a charter member of the York County Beautification Committee; and

WHEREAS, among her many other community activities, Marie Spencer served as a voting registrar and as a docent of the Waterman's Museum in Yorktown; and

WHEREAS, an active member of the Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church in Yorktown, Marie Spencer served as a member of the Chancel Choir, as church historian, and as a member of the Altar Committee; and

WHEREAS, a caring member of her community, Marie Spencer will be sorely missed by the many citizens of the Peninsula who experienced her warmth, humor, and kindness; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of Marie S. Spencer; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marie S. Spencer as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
