Commending Diane E. Angelos.

WHEREAS, Diane E. Angelos of Virginia Beach has been active in the Big Sisters organization for many years, acting as mentor to one "little sister" for eleven years and to another for two years; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her exceptional contributions, Diane Angelos was selected as 1996 National Big Sister and voluntary spokesperson for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her work as a Big Sister, Diane Angelos volunteers her time and talents to the Child Life Department of the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters; and

WHEREAS, Diane Angelos, despite holding a full-time job, finds time to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; to work with the Seton House for runaway girls; and to assist a children's play-therapy group at Samaritan House, a shelter for battered women and the homeless, where she serves as fund-raising chairwoman; and

WHEREAS, as a result of her exceptional efforts, Diane Angelos has been recognized as an area finalist for the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Awards for volunteerism and won a 1996 Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service in Washington; and

WHEREAS, through her multiple volunteering efforts, Diane Angelos gives new meaning to the term "community service"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Diane E. Angelos for her extraordinary commitment to helping her fellow citizens; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Diane E. Angelos as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her sterling record of service to the children of Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth.
