WHEREAS, Flora Crater has spent the majority of her adult life working to empower women and minorities, to help them improve their own lives and to work toward the goals they wish to accomplish; and
WHEREAS, Flora Crater has worked diligently to advance the equality of all women under the law; and
WHEREAS, Flora Crater has expended substantial time and energy in seeking to educate people regarding the political process so that they might become active participants in it, whatever their political inclinations might be; and
WHEREAS, Flora Crater encouraged women to run for office at a time when there were very few women in public office; and
WHEREAS, Flora Crater has served as an example to women by her own run for the offices of Lieutenant Governor and U.S. Senator; and
WHEREAS, 1997 marks the 20th year Flora Crater has published her annual book, The Almanac of Virginia Politics, which she has published to help educate the public regarding the political process in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Flora Crater stands as an example of the difference one person can make for the good of many people; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Flora Crater for all of her efforts to empower women and minorities; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Flora Crater as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and respect for her manifold efforts to inform and educate the citizens of Virginia.
