WHEREAS, McKinley Lenard Price, a Newport News dentist, has complied a remarkable record of service to his profession, his community, and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Hampton Institute (now Hampton University), McKinley Price earned his doctor of dental surgery degree from Howard University and was trained in general anesthesia at Provident Hospital in Baltimore; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Price's professional affiliations are many and varied, including local, state, and national components of the American and National Dental Associations, the American College of Dentists, and the Peninsula Dental Society, of which he is past president; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Price has served Newport News as a member of the School Board, including a term as president; as a member of the Hampton Roads Public Transportation Coalition; as treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Greater Hampton Roads Boys and Girls Clubs; and as president of the Newport News Educational Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Price has also been an influential force on a number of innovative organizations created to address race relations, at-risk youth, and young black males in the Newport News area; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Price is the founder and co-chairman of People to People, an organization made up of citizens of differing racial and economic backgrounds dedicated to improving race relations in Newport News; and

WHEREAS, as associate chairman of Achievable Dream, Dr. Price helps at-risk youth through an alternative program within the Newport News public schools; and

WHEREAS, as a founding member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of 100 Black Men, Dr. Price has worked with the local chapter of this national organization dedicated to improving the status of young black males through mentoring, modeling, and after-school and summer cultural and recreational activities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McKinley Price combines professional achievement and community service at a very high level, to the ultimate benefit of his patients, his profession, the City of Newport News, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Dr. McKinley Lenard Price for his extraordinary record of community service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. McKinley Lenard Price as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his exceptional contributions to the citizens of Newport News and the Commonwealth.
