HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 664
Directing the Commission on Family Violence Prevention to ensure that training is provided on family violence issues.

WHEREAS, family violence is a serious problem that merits legislative attention, but legislation alone cannot adequately address the complex issues involved in family violence; and

WHEREAS, to effectively implement legislation and reduce the incidence of family violence, a broad base of individuals who have received comprehensive cross-disciplinary training must be enlisted; and

WHEREAS, the Commission on Family Violence Prevention and others have developed training materials designed to improve the Commonwealth's response to family violence; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Commission on Family Violence Prevention be directed to ensure that training is provided on family violence issues. The training shall be provided to the following people: criminal justice personnel, including judges, substitute judges, clerks, magistrates, law-enforcement personnel, probation and parole officers, attorneys for the Commonwealth; guardians ad litem; court-appointed special advocates and defense attorneys; human services employees; clinical staff of local community services boards; mediators; health care providers; medical school faculty; local health department directors; and nursing directors; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Commission on Family Violence Prevention ensure that the training includes information on the effective responses to family violence, the impact of family violence on children and the existence of and availability of awards from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund.

The Commission shall report on the results of its training efforts and make further recommendations, if any, to the Governor and the 1998 Session of the General Assembly as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents.
