WHEREAS, the General Assembly believes that it is necessary and critical to the learning process that parents be involved in their children's education; and

WHEREAS, effective education requires parental involvement, through parents' encouraging and nurturing their children's learning experience at home and at school; and

WHEREAS, public school employees who have school age children recognize the need to be involved in their children's education and would like to participate in activities at their children's public schools or certified preschool programs; and

WHEREAS, public employees covered by the Virginia Personnel Act enjoy the ability to participate in this process through the availability of eight hour's leave time each calendar year; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That [ it is the sense of the General Assembly that ] local school boards in the Commonwealth be encouraged to provide necessary leave [ to their for public school ] employees so that local school board employees may participate in their children's education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates [ forward transmit ] copies of this resolution to [ local public school boards within the Commonwealth the President of the Board of Education and the Director of the Virginia School Boards Association ] so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia [ in this matter ] .
