Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 24, 1997
Agreed to by the Senate, January 30, 1997

WHEREAS, the 1996 men's soccer team from the College of William and Mary completed one of the finest seasons in the school's history; and

WHEREAS, the champion of the Colonial Athletic Association, the William and Mary soccer team finished the regular season with a record of 18-2-1, including a streak of 16 games without a defeat; and

WHEREAS, entering the NCAA soccer tournament, William and Mary was one of four seeded teams in the 32-team field, an honor that escaped larger, more well-known teams from around the country; and

WHEREAS, in the NCAA tournament, Head Coach Al Albert's Tribe defeated a stubborn Army team, 3-1, to advance to the second round against the Atlantic Coast Conference champions from the University of Maryland; and

WHEREAS, on a rainy, windy field in College Park, Maryland, the Tribe prevailed over Maryland, 3-0, to move only one victory away from the NCAA Final Four; and
