HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 503
Commending the marching bands, color guards, and JROTC cadets from Mount Vernon and West Potomac High Schools.

WHEREAS, the Eastern Fairfax All Star Marching Band is one of only four bands selected to represent Virginia in the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Parade; and

WHEREAS, the unit is comprised of nearly 250 musicians, color guard members, and JROTC cadets from Mount Vernon and West Potomac High Schools; and

WHEREAS, the bands, color guards, and JROTC units at these Fairfax County high schools have earned many honors for their musical performances, including superior ratings at the 1996 Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association's annual competition; and

WHEREAS, in order to achieve these honors, members of the band, color guard, and JROTC devote many hours per week to rehearsing and performing before and after school and on weekends; and

WHEREAS, membership in these worthy organizations requires a significant commitment from their young members and their families; and

WHEREAS, Mount Vernon and West Potomac High Schools, fierce rivals in athletic competition, have united to support the outstanding accomplishments of the Eastern Fairfax All Star Marching Band, thus bringing unity and pride to the diverse Mount Vernon community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate the marching bands, color guards, and JROTC cadets from Mount Vernon and West Potomac High Schools, which comprise the Eastern Fairfax All Star Marching Band, on representing the Commonwealth at the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Parade; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the members of the Eastern Fairfax All Star Marching Band as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their dedication, teamwork, and outstanding success.
