HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 494
Designating the week of May 25-31, 1997, as Western Week in Virginia.

WHEREAS, the City of Richmond will host the Professional Bull Riders and the Bud Light Cup Series on May 30 and 31, 1997; and

WHEREAS, Richmond will be the 12th stop on the 18-city 1997 Bud Light Cup tour, with bull riders competing for over $70,000 in prizes at each stop; and

WHEREAS, this occasion is Virginia's first opportunity to see the action and danger of the extreme sport that has captured a unique niche in professional athletics; and

WHEREAS, the Professional Bull Riders 1997 Bud Light Cup will feature two action-packed nights at the Richmond Coliseum, in which the Bud Light Cup bull riders will ride in one punishing round on one bull on Friday, May 30, and come back on Saturday, May 31, for another bone-jarring ride; and

WHEREAS, Professional Bull Riders cowboys will be jockeying for position in the Professional Bull Riders Bud Light Cup tour by earning their Bud Light Cup points in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, this exciting spectacle will be nationally telecast by The Nashville Network (TNN), the exclusive carrier of Bud Light Cup events; and

WHEREAS, Richmond's choice as venue for this event cannot but help enhance the city's reputation as host to world-class sporting events; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate the week of May 25-31, 1997, as Western Week in Virginia, in honor of the Professional Bull Riders Bud Light Cup Series appearance in Richmond; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the City Manager of the City of Richmond in order that he may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
