1997 SESSION
WHEREAS, Joseph B. Knecht, a Falls Church businessman and integral part of the St. James Catholic Church and St. James Catholic School communities, died on November 25, 1996; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Falls Church, Joseph Knecht graduated from Falls Church High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps before opening his general contracting business in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Knecht was devoted to St. James Catholic School in Falls Church, which he and his children attended, contributing greatly to the church and the school for many years; and
WHEREAS, an active and enthusiastic volunteer, Joseph Knecht was a eucharistic minister at St. James Catholic Church, was a member of the building committee, coached soccer and basketball, and was a scout leader; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Knecht was president of the Merrifield Improvement Association and received awards from St. James and from the Catholic Archdiocese of Arlington for his tireless contributions of time and talent to Catholic schools; and
WHEREAS, a man dedicated to his family, his church, and his community, Joseph Knecht will be long remembered for his exceptional energy, generosity, and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely loss of a fine Virginian, Joseph B. Knecht; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joseph B. Knecht as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
