WHEREAS, Arlene P. Ingram is the Director of Guidance and College Counseling at Cape Henry Collegiate School and has been employed by the school since 1977; and
WHEREAS, Arlene P. Ingram is well-loved by the students, parents and staff of Cape Henry Collegiate School for her willingness to listen and for her practical and compassionate guidance; and
WHEREAS, recognizing that teenage students face many of the same problems, Arlene Ingram has developed a student-parent resource guide, which gives tips on everything from setting limits to mourning the loss of a beloved pet, yet still approaches students', parents' and colleagues' unique concerns in a caring manner; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of these qualities, Arlene P. Ingram was awarded the Virginia School Counselors Association 1995 Counselor of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Arlene P. Ingram was honored by 60,000 of her peers in April 1996 as the national recipient of the American School Counselor Association's Secondary School Counselor of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Arlene P. Ingram is the first Virginian and the first independent school counselor to receive this prestigious award in the organization's 40-year history; and
WHEREAS, Arlene P. Ingram was chosen for the award because of her dedication, diligence, and compassion when dealing with students, parents, and coworkers; and
WHEREAS, the coveted honor won by Arlene P. Ingram brings well-earned recognition to her, to the students, faculty and staff of Cape Henry Collegiate School, and to the Commonwealth of Virginia, and reflects Cape Henry's continuing commitment to excellence in secondary education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Arlene P. Ingram for her designation as the 1996 National Secondary School Counselor of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Arlene P. Ingram in honor of her singular dedication to the students, parents, faculty and staff of Cape Henry Collegiate School.
