WHEREAS, for more than two decades, Rebecca Selfe has coached young athletes at Washington County's Patrick Henry High School; and

WHEREAS, Rebecca Selfe has coached girls' volleyball, basketball, and cross country and is one of the few female coaches in the Commonwealth to coach both boys' and girls' track and field; and

WHEREAS, during the course of her career, Rebecca Selfe has coached many excellent athletes, young people who have gone on to successful college careers; and

WHEREAS, equally important to Coach Selfe are the many hundreds of average athletes who emerged from the track and field program at Patrick Henry High School with greater self-confidence and the satisfaction of knowing they have done their best; and

WHEREAS, in 1996, the Patrick Henry High School girls' track and field team won the Virginia High School League Group AA state championship, the first state title in Coach Selfe's career; and

WHEREAS, with her emphasis on the individual, her ability to coax the best from her young charges, and the satisfying knowledge that she has improved the lives of so many young people, Rebecca Selfe has proven herself one of the finest coaches in Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Rebecca Selfe for her devotion and dedication to the young athletes she coaches so well; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Rebecca Selfe in honor of her first state championship team.
