WHEREAS, the 1995 boys' cross country team from Stafford High School placed a highly creditable sixth in the state championships, thus planting a seed that grew and flowered during 1996; and

WHEREAS, convinced that they had a realistic chance at winning a state championship, the Stafford team members worked together beginning in the spring of 1996 to realize their goal; and

WHEREAS, after months of hard work and increasingly difficult competition, on November 9, 1996, the Stafford High School boys' cross country team experienced the satisfaction of accomplishing its goal--a state championship; and

WHEREAS, team members Dustin Hood, Jason Trant, Tom Sitzman, Carl Cabaniss, Mike Kozicki, Ben Whitford, and Kevin Oulette and Head Coach Pete Gorfida returned to Stafford with the school's first cross country state title; and

WHEREAS, the team's triumph is a tribute to the individual talent, maturity, and dedication of the runners, the togetherness and commitment of the team, and the inspired leadership of the coaching staff; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the Stafford High School cross country team on its state championship performance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Pete Gorfida as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on a superlative 1996 cross county season.
