Commending Jeff Rouse.

WHEREAS, Jeff Rouse, a native of Stafford and a 1988 graduate of Stafford Senior High School, followed up his 1992 Olympic success with an even more outstanding performance at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, a world-record-holding swimmer, Jeff Rouse won the gold medal at the 1996 Games in the 100-meter backstroke; and

WHEREAS, leading off for the U.S. 400-meter medley relay team, Jeff Rouse earned his second gold medal, as he and his teammates won the race in world-record time; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Rouse was voted team captain of the U.S. Olympic men's swimming team in 1996; and

WHEREAS, to cap an extraordinary year, Jeff Rouse was named U.S. Swimming's Male Athlete of the Year for 1996; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Rouse has brilliantly represented his country in two Olympic Games, winning three gold medals and one silver medal; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Rouse has been winning races and setting American and world records since 1985 and has compiled an outstanding record of athletic success; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jeff Rouse on his exceptional performance during the 1996 Olympic Games; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeff Rouse as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his preeminent position among American swimmers.
