HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 402
Commending the Central High School boys' and girls' cross country teams.

WHEREAS, for the fourth consecutive year, the Central High School boys' cross country team captured the Virginia High School League Group A state championship; and

WHEREAS, the 1996 girls' team from Central High School, located in Woodstock, made it a triumphant year for the Falcons by taking third place in the state championship meet; and

WHEREAS, led by the unbeatable one-two punch of Jason Long and Tim Dlugasch, the Central boys' team swept the district and regional championships on its way to the state title; and

WHEREAS, the girls' team, led by the outstanding individual performance of Rachel Reynard, improved on their regional performance by finishing an unexpected third in the Group A state competition; and

WHEREAS, both teams are coached by Joseph Huddle, a graduate of Central High School and Roanoke College, who has led his boys' team to a perfect record of 229 straight victories over Group A competition; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding success of Central High School keeps alive the incredible string of eight consecutive boys' Group A cross country championships by a Shenandoah County high school; and

WHEREAS, the triumphs of the Falcons cross country teams are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the athletes, the skill of the coaching staff, and the support of students and faculty of Central High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the boys' and girls' cross country teams of Central High School on the triumphant conclusion of their 1996 seasons; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Joseph Huddle as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the brilliant success of the Central High School cross country teams.
