Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 33.1-190.3 as follows:

§ 33.1-190.3. Erection and maintenance of warning lights; emergency vehicles.

The Department of Transportation shall, upon request of the local governing body of any county, city, or town, erect and maintain warning lights on any highway within the secondary system, located at or near places where emergency vehicles are garaged or kept, to warn motorists of the ingress or egress of such vehicles during emergencies.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to any county that has withdrawn its roads from the secondary system of state highways under the provisions of § 11 of Chapter 415 of the Acts of 1932 and has not elected to return.
