Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 18.2-82.1 as follows:
§ 18.2-82.1. Bodily injury resulting from arson.
Any person who commits a violation of §§ 18.2-77, 18.2-79, 18.2-80 or 18.2-82 which results in bodily injury to a salaried or volunteer fire fighter, law-enforcement officer, occupant of the building or structure burned, or any other person shall be guilty of a Class 5 felony. A violation of this section may be established without proof of a specific intent to cause bodily injury.
2. That the provisions of this act may result in a net increase in periods of imprisonment in state correctional facilities. Pursuant to § 30-19.1:4, the estimated amount of the necessary appropriation is $ 0.
