978436346Whereas, Mr. Bates is a retired federal employee; and
Whereas, Mr. Bates served in World War II and is forty percent disabled; and
Whereas, Mr. Bates was notified by the Department of Taxation that he was entitled to a $5,839 refund for taxes paid on his federal retirement benefits; and
Whereas, Mr. Bates incorrectly filled out the form to claim the refund; and
Whereas, the Department of Taxation has notified Mr. Bates that it is too late now for him to collect his refund; and
Whereas, Mr. Bates has no other means to obtain relief except by action of this body; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That there is hereby allocated from the general fund appropriation to the Department of Taxation the sum of $5,839 for the relief of Wayne W. Bates. This sum shall be paid by check issued by the State Treasurer on warrant of the Comptroller to Wayne W. Bates, upon execution by him of a release of all claims he may have against the Commonwealth or any agency, instrumentality, officer, employee or political subdivision thereof, in connection with the aforesaid occurrence.
