Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1 That § 9-145.50 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 9-145.50. Council established; duties.

The Virginia Technology Council is hereby established within the executive branch and shall be referred to in this chapter as the Council. The Council shall perform the following functions:

1. Work with the Commonwealth to develop and implement a statewide technology blueprint;

2. Be an advocate for technology-related issues at all levels of government and within the business community;

3. Enhance the programs of local and regional technology councils, and encourage the establishment of additional local and regional councils;

4. Work with local and regional councils in their effort to promote programs of research, development, investment, and marketing for technology industries throughout the Commonwealth; and

5. Strengthen the technology business sector and position Virginia as a leader in this industry so vital to economic growth; and.

6. Work with the Virginia World Technology Fair Commission to develop a comprehensive plan to host a Virginia World Technology Fair and to develop a comprehensive technology infrastructure plan.

2. That Chapter 22.9 (§§ 9-145.40 through 9-145.44) of Title 9 of the Code of Virginia is repealed.
