CHAPTER 613 An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 15.1-539.1, relating to service on board of supervisors; penalty. [H 2292] Approved March 20, 1997

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.1-539.1 as follows:

§ 15.1-539.1. Discharging employee for service on board prohibited; penalty.

A board member of a county with a population between 31,000 and 31,500 shall not be discharged from employment as a result of his absence from employment due to attendance at regular board meetings upon giving reasonable notice to his employer of such absence. Any employer violating the provisions of this section shall be subject to a civil penalty of up to $2,500.
