An Act for the relief of Cal's, Inc.

Whereas, Cal's, Inc., obtained an escheator's deed for $500 for 0.38 acres of land located at Route 288 and Chester Road in December 1988; and

Whereas, the 0.38 acres of land is the property of the Department of Transportation and has been since 1973; and

Whereas, Cal's, Inc., lost its $500 investment in the property and its legal fees; and

Whereas, Cal's, Inc., has no other means to obtain relief except by action of this body; now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. That there is hereby appropriated from the general fund of the state treasury the sum of $413.51 for the relief of Cal's, Inc., to be paid by check issued by the State Treasurer on warrant of the Comptroller to Cal's, Inc., upon execution by one of its authorized representatives of a release of all claims it may have against the Commonwealth or of any agency, instrumentality, officer, employee or political subdivision thereof, in connection with the aforesaid occurrence provided, that Cal's, Inc., returns the original land grant to the State Treasurer, who shall note its return in the records of his office, and provided further that Cal's, Inc., execute and record a quit claim deed to the Commonwealth of Virginia and return the quit claim deed to the Treasurer.

§ 2. That the County of Chesterfield shall reimburse the general fund of the state treasury in an amount equal to the sum appropriated pursuant to this act. Such amount shall be reimbursed from the distribution of net profits appropriated to the County of Chesterfield pursuant to § 4.1-117.
