CHAPTER 48 An Act to amend and reenact § 33.1-403 of the Code of Virginia, relating to purchase or lease of motor vehicles by the Commonwealth. [S 821] Approved March 2, 1997

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 33.1-403 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 33.1-403. Approval of purchase or lease of motor vehicle.

No motor vehicle shall be purchased or leased with public funds by the Commonwealth or by any officer or employee on behalf of the Commonwealth without the prior written approval of the Commissioner. No lease shall be approved by the Commissioner except upon demonstration that the cost of such lease plus operating costs of the vehicle shall be less than comparable costs for a vehicle owned by the Commonwealth , but in no instance shall a lease be approved for a term exceeding two years.
