SUMMARY:
Protective orders. Specifies that foreign protective orders, filed with the juvenile or family court, are entitled to full faith and credit in Virginia as provided in the federal Violence Against Women Act and provides a procedural mechanism for seeking enforcement. Clerks and police may rely upon statements of any person protected that the foreign order remains in effect, as written. The bill is similar to a 1993 New Hampshire statute. This bill is recommended by the Commission on Family Violence Prevention. This bill is similar to HB 1043.
