SB 437 Health insurance; interest on claims proceeds.

SUMMARY:

Accident and sickness insurance; interest on claims proceeds. Eliminates judgment interest exemption for health insurers and nonstock corporations providing health services plans when the interest is less than five dollars. The bill further eliminates such exemptions for direct payments by HMOs to participating providers. However, the obligation to pay interest is not applicable to those payments made to providers pursuant to negotiated arrangements requiring periodic payments.
