1996 SESSION
SB 397 Workers' compensation; obligations of persons compensation.
Introduced by: Jackson E. Reasor, Jr. | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Workers' compensation; reporting obligations of persons receiving compensation benefits; statutory dependents. Extends to statutory dependents of deceased workers' compensation claimants the obligation to furnish employers reports of status changes for the duration of workers' compensation payments to such dependents. The bill requires statutory dependents to report, as appropriate, remarriage or a change in status as full-time students. The Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission is required to advise statutory dependents of their obligation to make such reports. Under current law, workers' compensation benefit payments to dependents of deceased employees cease upon termination of dependency. A spouse's dependency terminates upon remarriage; a child's upon attaining the age of 18 years of age, or, if a full-time student and under the age of 23, when he ceases to be enrolled as a full-time student in any accredited educational institution.
