SUMMARY:
Virginia Retirement System; health insurance credits for retired teachers. Mandates that teachers retired under VRS who rendered at least 15 years of total creditable service shall receive a health insurance credit added to their monthly retirement allowances, which shall be applied to reduce the retiree's state health insurance premium costs. The Commonwealth will pay the costs thereof. The bill also gives localities authority to provide an additional health insurance credit at their own expense. The bill also provides for reimbursement up to the applicable credit for members who purchase an alternative personal health insurance policy. The bill becomes effective in due course, provided that state funding is included in the 1996-98 budget bill.
