1996 SESSION
SB 271 Equity in Public Education, Commission on; continued.
Introduced by: Stanley C. Walker | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Equity in Public Education. Continues the Commission on Equity in Public Education until July 1, 1998. Although the equity law suit was dismissed in 1994, the coalition which brought this suit has continued to function and, currently, is conducting a public relations and information campaign focused on informing the public and state officials and legislators about the needs of poor, particularly rural, school divisions. For this reason and because educational opportunities are still disparate among the Commonwealth's school divisions, the Commission's work--particularly in monitoring any emerging issues--is recommended to continue.
