SUMMARY:

Guardians for persons under a disability. Provides that compensation and expenses of a guardian ad litem appointed for a person under a disability in a habitual offender proceeding are to be paid from the criminal fund. A "person under a disability" is defined in § 8.01-2 to include, among others, a person who is mentally retarded or mentally ill, an alcoholic or a drug addict.

This bill was recommended by the Committee on District Courts.
