SB 20 Juvenile assaults.

SUMMARY:

Juvenile assaults. Creates a new offense, punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor for a juvenile offender who is confined in an adult facility or in a facility operated by the Department of Youth and Family Services, or who is a probationer or parolee, to inflict bodily injuries upon employees, volunteers and others lawfully on the premises of those facilities. The penalty includes a minimum, mandatory term of six months. The section does not apply to injuries inflicted by one inmate upon another. The bill also creates a new offense for assault and battery upon school personnel. The offense is punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor and carries a minimum, mandatory term of 10 days, or if a firearm was used, six months.

This bill is recommended by the Governor's Commission on Juvenile Justice Reform. This bill is similar to HB 126.
