SUMMARY:

School Board Salaries. Increases the maximum salaries per year for members of the following school boards: Botetourt from $1,800 to $3,000; Culpeper from $2,500 to $3,500; Page from $1,800 to $3,600; Roanoke from $2,900 to $6,000; Shenandoah from $900 to $2,400 per year; Fairfax City from $1,000 to $3,000; and Richmond City from $5,200 to $7,000. This measure also provides that no school board can request the General Assembly to consider an increase in its annual salary limit unless such school board takes an affirmative vote on the requested increase and clarifies the current provision relating to elected boards being required to award salary increases by an affirmative vote to note the limits set in the state law. Any proposed change in school board salaries must be adopted consistent with procedures applicable to salary changes for the relevant local governing body. Upon passage of an appropriate resolution by the school board if elected in whole or in part, or by the governing body if the school board is comprised solely of appointed members, the school board chairman may be paid an additional salary not to exceed $1,000.
