SUMMARY:

Study; educational needs of underserved gifted students. Establishes the Joint Subcommittee Studying the Educational Needs of Certain Underserved Gifted Students to continue the work on the status and needs of gifted education for minority and low-income students begun by the Joint Subcommittee Studying the Status of and Need for Academic Preparation, Financial Assistance, and Incentive Programs to Encourage Minorities to Pursue Postsecondary Education and Training, HJR 199 (1994). The joint subcommittee is requested to review the findings and recommendations of the previous subcommittee and to examine in greater detail, among other things, the factors which contribute to the under-representation of certain underserved gifted students in gifted education programs. The joint subcommittee is requested to recommend appropriate strategies and alternatives to provide equity in the accessibility of such programs by underserved gifted students.
