SUMMARY:

Interpreters. Expands the current section allowing for the appointment of interpreters for deaf or non-English-speaking criminal defendants and victims to apply to witnesses in criminal cases. The bill also specifies that payment for an interpreter is made out of the general fund only when the interpreter is appointed by the court and not when the person obtains an interpreter of his or her own choice.

The bill is recommended by the Committee on District Courts.
