Introduced by: R. Steven Landes | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Food labeling. Allows the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services to promulgate regulations concerning food labels and amends the statutory labeling requirements. A new requirement is added that beverages purporting to contain fruit or vegetable juice bear a label stating the percentage of the beverage that is juice. The bill also specifies that only colors not required to be certified under the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act may be listed generally as "colorings." Labels which do not comply with the federal act's nutrition labeling requirements are newly deemed to be misbranded under the state statute.
