Introduced by: Peter T. Way | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Limits on campaign contributions to statewide and General Assembly candidates; penalties. Imposes a limit of $2,500 per election per statewide candidate and $1,000 per election per General Assembly candidate on contributions by any individual; and imposes a limit of $5,000 per election per statewide candidate and $2,500 per election per General Assembly candidate on contributions by any political party committee, caucus group, political action committee, corporation, or labor organization. Each primary, nominating method, or special or general election constitutes a separate election. Independent candidates are treated like party candidates and may accept contributions up to the applicable limit before the primary date and, again, up to the limit after the primary. The limits do not apply to contributions by the candidate or his family to his campaign. Candidates who accept excess amounts are subject to a civil penalty equal to the excess.
