SUMMARY:
Purchases of Virginia Retirement Service credit for prior service. Reduces the cost of prior service credit for years of active duty service in the armed forces from 15 percent to five percent of annual compensation. A member of the Virginia Retirement System wishing to buy service credit for his military service would be able to buy it for an amount equal to the greater of (i) five percent of his present annual compensation for each year to be credited or (ii) five percent of his average annual creditable compensation during his 36 highest consecutive months of creditable service.
