SUMMARY:

Involuntary commitment. . Amends the involuntary commitment law to : (i) provide some clarifying syntax amendments, (ii) define "financial interest" as related to the employment of the person examining the patient and the hospital in which he is detained, (iii) remove the restrictions on the issuance of a temporary detention order without an emergency custody order proceeding, (iv) authorize the attorney for the person whose admission is sought to interview the parties either during or before the hearing, (v) allow the examination to be conducted by a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health practitioner licensed in Virginia, and (vi) clarifying that the medical records released to the treatment program may be copies of the court's records.
