Introduced by: Whittington W. Clement | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Elimination of duplicative programs in higher education. Authorizes the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to require the discontinuance of any graduate or undergraduate academic program upon a determination that a program is nonproductive in terms of program effectiveness or, if supported by state funds, is unnecessarily duplicative of academic programs offered at other public institutions of higher education in Virginia. Under current law, SCHEV is empowered to review and require the discontinuance of any academic program which is presently offered by any public institution of higher education when the Council determines that such academic program is nonproductive in terms of the number of degrees granted, the number of students served by the program, and budgetary considerations.
