HB 1545 Use of candidate's name in name of political committee.

SUMMARY:

Elections; campaign finance disclosure act; use of candidate's name. Prohibits any political committee from using a candidate's name as part of the political committee's name unless, prior to filing its statement of organization with the State Board of Elections, it either (i) has obtained the candidate's written authorization consenting to the use of his name or (ii) has mailed notice of its intention to use his name to the candidate at least 21 days before filing. A copy of the candidate's authorization or evidence of timely notice to the candidate must be filed by the political committee when it files its statement of organization with the State Board. A violation of this requirement is subject to the same civil penalty as other violations of the act.
