SUMMARY:
Uniform Statewide Building Code; asbestos inspections. Exempts buildings for which an initial building permit was issued prior to January 1, 1985, from mandatory asbestos inspections. Currently, the local building official cannot issue a building permit allowing any building to be renovated or demolished until the building official receives certification that the building was inspected for asbestos by a licensed asbestos contractor. Asbestos was banned from construction in 1985.
