SUMMARY:

Courtroom interpreters. Allows the court to appoint interpreters for non-English-speaking persons who are witnesses or parties in a trial, hearing or other proceeding before a judge. Payment by the Commonwealth for such interpreters shall be only to the extent of available appropriations, but cost of interpreters may be assessed against either party as court costs in the discretion of the court. Privileged communications through the interpreter are preserved by extending the privilege of the witness or party to the interpreter.
