HB 1360 Reimbursement for health services rendered by nurse midwives.
Introduced by: Robert F. McDonnell | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Accident and sickness insurance; reimbursement for health services rendered by certified nurse midwives. Adds certified nurse midwives to the list of medical providers whose services must be reimbursed by health insurers whenever (i) such services are covered under applicable policies or plans and (ii) such services may be legally performed by such providers. The amendments also bring certified nurse midwives within a class of providers that health maintenance organizations cannot "unreasonably discriminate" against when contracting for specialty or referral practitioners or providers whenever a plan covers the services these providers render. Additionally, preferred provider organizations must give providers in this class the same opportunity as doctors of medicine to qualify for payment as preferred providers.
