HB 1314 Abandoned or disabled vehicles; removal.
Introduced by: Roger J. McClure | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Motor vehicles; abandoned vehicles; accidents. Requires a driver involved in an accident or breakdown to move his vehicle so as not to obstruct traffic. Drivers involved in accidents damaging unattended property may contact the State Police or a local law-enforcement agency, regardless of the location of the accident. This bill also expands the definition of "abandoned motor vehicle" to include vehicles left within the right-of-way of an interstate highway or left on the shoulder of primary roads. This bill authorizes the Department of Transportation to remove vehicles, cargo, and other personal property from a roadway if such property is blocking the roadway or endangering public safety. Fire department officials responding to accidents or roadway hazards are required to assist the police in their efforts to maintain the flow of traffic and protect public safety.
