SUMMARY:

Prisons; powers of Director. Allows the Director of the Department of Corrections to appoint supervisory personnel in each probation and parole district from among those persons currently serving as probation and parole officers in the Commonwealth. Probation and parole officers are currently appointed by the judges in each district, but are supervised by the Department and the Director. The appointment power of judges will remain the same, but the Director will be able to appoint and move supervisory personnel between districts at will. There are currently 88 personnel deemed "supervisory" or "management" in the system out of a total of 512 officers and 41 district and 12 sub-offices around the state.
